The newly appointed Assistant Garda Commissioner for the greater Dublin area has said gardai are concerned about elements involved in anti drug protest groups.

Speaking on RTE's Tonight with Vincent Browne, Assistant Commissioner Tom King refused to confirm or deny reports of IRA involvement in community groups. "The gardai have a pretty comprehensive picture of what is going on with drug groups in Dublin", he said. "We would not be happy with some of the people involved. We would not be happy with some of the motivations. We would not be happy with some of the agendas."

Asked whether he had the IRA in mind, he said that there were more people involved than any one paramilitary organisation. "Be careful of involvement with other people, with other agendas. Put your trust, put your faith in An Garda Siochana", he added.
