A bench warrant was yesterday issued at the Dublin Children's Court for a teenage girl, who is a recovering heroin addict and charged with engaging in prostitution.
The girl had been placed in care earlier this year and ordered to take part in drug rehabilitation and educational programmes, and reside at a hostel.
The 18-year-old girl had been placed in care after being charged at Dublin Children's Court under section 7 of the Criminal Law Sexual Offences Act for loitering in a public place with intent to solicit or importune another person for the purposes of prostitution, at Stoneybatter, Dublin, on January 3rd.
She was a juvenile at the time of her arrest and when the case first came to court.
Judge Aingeal Ní Chondúin heard yesterday that the girl has gone missing. Care workers had grave concerns for her well-being and believed from her appearance on the last occasion they saw her, that she could have started abusing heroin again.
The judge said she wanted the girl to be detained as soon as possible.
