Christmas tree recycling centres have been opening at different locations throughout the State.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council was the latest local authority to open its centres yesterday, following the lead of Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council.

Tree recycle centres in South Dublin County Council open tomorrow, while those in Cork and Galway will open on Friday.

Recycling is free of charge at all centres. Most will be open for between two and three weeks, after which people can bring trees to permanent green waste-recycling centres in their local authority area. Householders are also being encouraged to recycle Christmas packaging and other waste generated over the holiday season.
