Construction workers in Dublin airport have found buried waste material, it emerged today.
The material, which is not toxic, comprises catering waste and some of the items found carry airline branding from 1970s.
A spokesman for Dublin Airport said the airline in question, believed to be Aer Lingus, had been approached about the find, which includes old milk cartons and food packaging left over from inflight meals.
The material was found in a strip of land measuring approximately 50 metres in length and 10 metres in breadth, located in a field about one kilometre from the airport’s terminal buildings, according to the Dublin Airport Authority.
“The DAA is currently investigating how the material was originally deposited in this location and assessing how it should be treated,” a statement said.
