Local authorities in Meath and Sligo have said residents in some parts of the counties should continue to boil water from the drinking supply until further notice.

Water boil notices were put in place in recent days due to concerns about the effects of recent flooding on the safety of drinking water.

The areas affected in Sligo are those served by the Kilsellagh reservoir, which supplies Rosses Point, Kiltycahill and northern parts of Sligo town.

A spokeswoman for Sligo County Council said today there was no change to the water boil notice. Fresh drinking water will be delivered by tanker to a number of locations today and tomorrow. Full details of the drop times are available on the council’s website.

In Meath, about 4,000 people connected to the Athboy and Moynalty water supply should also continue to boil water until further notice.

A spokesman for Meath County Council said the results of a further batch of microbiological tests are awaited before the boil notice can be lifted. He said all test results so far had been clear, but the council would await a series of negative results to ensure the safety of the supply.

The boil notice is likely to continue for at least another 24 hours.

Water drops are being co-ordinated by the council’s area office in Kells.
