There are no street cleaning and refuse collection services in Waterford city today due to unofficial strike actions by City Council workers in a number of departments.
A Council spokesperson said the majority of staff are at work but a number of staff are engaged in unofficial action. "The majority of services, other than refuse collection and street cleaning, are operating as normal," he said.
"On the resumption of normal working practices, we are available for immediate negotiation. There is a very expensive partnership framework in place at Waterford City Council, at the overall organisation level and at section level, and workers have every opportunity to discuss any matters they wish to discuss."
It is believed the dispute is centred around what workers claim is the use of outside contract staff without prior negotiation.
A number of staff at the city water plant in Tycor are supporting the action but the spokesperson declined to say whether water supply might be interrupted.
"At the moment we are monitoring the situation but the longer the whole issue persists the more potential there is for disruption to services."
