The man who allegedly performed a botched circumcision on a one-month-old child in Waterford last August has been sent forward for trial to the Circuit Court.

Mr Osagie Igbinedion, a Nigerian national with an address at the Ormonde Hostel, John's Green, Kilkenny, is charged with intentionally or recklessly engaging in conduct that created a serious risk of death or serious harm on August 17th, 2003.

Callis Osaghae, the 29-day old baby, son of Idehen (31) and Mabel (23), was pronounced dead at Waterford Regional Hospital at 5.50 a.m. on Monday morning, August 18th. He had been rushed to hospital bleeding heavily following the operation, which was carried out with a razor blade.

Waterford District Court heard today that the case would proceed on the one charge by consent of the Director of Public Prosecutions, but that the investigation was ongoing and further charges may be preferred at a later date.
