Waterford United and Kilkenny City have progressed to the third round of the FAI Carlsberg Cup after both emerged victorious from their respective second round replays this evening.
There was high drama at the RSC where, after over 3½ hours of football, Waterford and Limerick still couldn’t be separated.
The teams were tied at one apiece after 90 minutes with both sides grabbing a second in extra-time. With penalties required to break the stalemate, Waterford held their nerve to run out 4-2 winners.
Tonight’s other replay, between Kilkenny City and Athlone Town, also went to extra-time but two goals in quick succession gave City the upper-hand a third on 120 minutes booked their safe passage into the third round.
