Phil Thompson sounded a note of defiance after a grim weekend for Liverpool, insisting the Reds will win all their remaining games.

After a demoralising 4-0 defeat at Manchester United - their heaviest against their bitterest rivals for 50 years - Thompson has come out fighting.

He revealed top scorer Michael Owen will return to the fray on Saturday against troubled Fulham and made a bold prediction, saying: "We are going to win every one of our remaining games."

The fact that two of the six are away to their closest rivals for the final Champions League spot - Everton and Chelsea - will make that boast look even braver.

But Thompson said: "There will be nothing less than 100% commitment from everyone else here.

"We owe that to everyone connected to the club. Obviously everyone is extremely low after what happened at the weekend and it hurt us all."

Liverpool's attempts to reach the Champions League were put in grave doubt by the Old Trafford defeat, particularly with Chelsea and Everton both winning over the weekend.

But Thompson said: "In the end 4-0 was a totally unjust scoreline."

With Sami Hyypia sent off after just four minutes it was never going to be Liverpool's day, and they desperately missed the pace of injured Owen, who has netted over a quarter of the side's goals this season.

A back injury sustained during England's game with Turkey forced him out on the morning of the United match, but Thompson said: "Michael will be fit for Saturday. The United game came too soon for that kind of injury. The first two days last Friday and Saturday, were the most painful but he'll be okay to face Fulham."

The Fulham game will be Hyypia's last before he serves a one-match suspension against Everton and Liverpool are battling to get defender Stephane Henchoz fit following his calf operation.

After the Fulham and Everton games, Liverpool wind up their season against Charlton, West Brom, Manchester City and Chelsea.
