Gardaí believe they may have discovered the weapon used in a fatal stabbing in north Dublin this morning.
A post mortem is being carried out on a 25-year-old man who died after he was found seriously injured in a house in Artane.
The victim, who is Latvian, was found in an upstairs room in the house on Ardcollum Avenue at 8.45am and taken to Beaumont hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
A knife was found in the upstairs of the house and has been sent for technical examination to establish whether it was used in the killing.
It is believed two men were seen going into the house this morning before a row broke out.
Gardaí have confirmed that two people who live in the house have been assisting them with their inquiries.
One of them is a woman who was in the house at the time of the stabbing. She locked herself in her room when she hear the commotion.
The other person is man who lives in the house but had gone to work before the incident occurred.
The scene remains preserved for technical examination and detectives in Coolock are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 01 6664200.
Superintendent Noel McLaughlin told ireland.comhe was particularly keen to hear from anyone who lives in the vicinity and also from members of the Eastern European community, who may have worked with the victim.
The victim's name will not be released until his next of kin have been informed. The Latvian embassy is assisting gardaí make contact with them.
Labour Party election candidate for Dublin North Central, Senator Derek McDowell described the incident as "a ghastly and brutal."
"It is a further escalation of trouble in the northside of Dublin that has seen pipe bombings, assaults and shootings in recent weeks and months. The area is gaining an unfortunate and unwanted reputation for such incidents."
