Wimbledon:Tim Henman's second round match against Feliciano Lopez lasted just six minutes today before rain halted proceedings for the day.

The British number two had started well, holding his first service game to love and then earning a break point on the Spaniard's serve which he could not convert.

But with the score at 1-1 and 15-15 in the third game of the first set the predicted inclement weather returned to send the players scurrying off court and they weren't to return.

Also facing a Thursday resumption is world number one Roger Federer who was cruising towards his 50th straight win on grass against Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro before the rain fell.

Seeking to equal Bjorn Borg's modern-day record with a fifth consecutive title, Federer took the opening set of his second round match 6-2 as the sun briefly shone on the All England Club.

The second set was more difficult for the Swiss ace but he eventually took it 7-5, and he was 2-0 and a break up in the third before play was halted.

The majority of the day had been dry, and earlier men's third seed Andy Roddick won his second-round clash with Danai Udomchoke in straight sets.

Roddick eased to a 6-3 6-6 7-6 (7-3) victory on a packed Centre Court inside one hour 44 minutes at SW19.

Fifth seed Fernando Gonzalez took a little longer to record victory as he was taken to four sets on Court Two by Alejandro Falla.

The Colombian underdog took the opening set 6-4 before Gonzalez battled back to take the next two 6-3 6-4.

Falla was a break up in the fourth before Gonzalez rallied once more to force the set to a tie-break which he won to seal a 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-1) victory.

12th seed Richard Gasquet cruised through to the third round after a routine straight sets win over his French compatriot Nicolas Mahut on Court 18.

Mahut, playing his 10th match on grass in 17 days, may have been feeling the effects of his busy schedule as he limped out of the tournament.

Gasquet eventually prevailed 6-4 6-3 6-4.

In the Women's Singles top seed Justine Henin made predictably short work of world number 83 Vera Dushevina on Centre Court to coast into the third round.

Henin was seldom threatened in the course of her 6-0 6-4 victory by an opponent who never previously won a match at the tournament in three attempts.

French Open finalist Ana Ivanovic swept aside Hungarian opponent Melinda Czink in their first round clash despite a short delay for rain on Court 18.

The 19-year-old Serbian romped to the first set 6-0 before play was stopped early in the second set as the rain fell.

The stoppage helped Czink who looked a different player after the restart, and she took the sixth seed to a second set tie-break.

However Ivanovic held her nerve to close out the game 6-0 7-6 (7-3).

Third seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia made short work of Jarmila Gajdosova to progress to the third round after a 6-1 6-1 victory in a match that lasted just 48 minutes.

12th seed Elena Dementieva didn't have such an easy time on Court Three against Nathalie Dechy of France.

After taking the first set 6-2 in just 27 minutes, she was forced into a tie-break in a second set that lasted 75 minutes.

Dechy went 5-1 up in the breaker, only for Dementieva to rally and close out a 6-2 7-6 (9-7) win.

Seventh seed Serena Williams struggled early but eventually overcame Alicia Molik in straight sets to reach round three.

The former champion progressed 7-6 6-3 after starting poorly on Court One, but she finished powerfully to outgun the Australian.

Another former winner Martina Hingis sailed through to the third round after an easy 6-1 6-2 victory over Aiko Nakamura on Court 13.

Hingis eventually won on her fifth match point to seal the victory.

14th seed Nicole Vaidisova beat Karin Knapp of Italy 7-6 (8-6) 6-2 on Court 11, while 13th seed Dinara Safina beat Katerina Bondarenko 7-5 7-6 (9-7) on Court 13.

16th seed Shahar Peer of Israel beat Kaia Kanepi 6-4 7-5 on Court 14.
