Weather watch: regional round-up
Northwest
Many minor roads were impassable early yesterday and traffic was slowed almost to a crawl for several hours on the main Donegal-Derry road at Barnesmore Gap and on the road linking Sligo and Manorhamilton. Flights from Sligo and Donegal airports were delayed for up to 90 minutes. The northwest can expect further heavy showers and snow in the coming days.
West
Gardaí in Mayo reported a number of minor accidents yesterday morning, while hundreds of primary and second-level schools closed as road conditions prevented school buses from travelling on most routes. Snowfalls were heaviest in east Mayo, with up to 10cms of snow.
Munster
Parts of Munster experienced a light dusting of snow yesterday, with some snow accumulating on high ground. Risk of heavy snow tomorrow.
Midlands and Leinster
Parts of the midlands and Leinster had light snow showers yesterday and severe frost last night. In general, sunny spells mixed with cold winds will continue over the coming days. However, there is a risk of heavy snow showers in some parts tomorrow.
