Former world number one golfer Karrie Webb said today she has no interest in play in a men's tournament.
Webb released a statement this morning after Tony Roosenburg, director of the Australasian PGA and Heineken Classic tournaments, said last week he would ask Webb and perhaps Annika Sorenstam to play against the men.
"For the promoters of the Heineken Classic to now suggest that I'd be willing to accept an invitation to play in their event (with whom I have had no contact with to date) shows me that they are merely trying to gain free publicity for their event," Webb said.
"Regarding me playing in a men's PGA event, I have expressed my views many times during these past five months as something I simply choose not to pursue," the 28-year-old added.
Sorenstam (32) became the first female player to compete on the US PGA Tour for 58 years when she took part in last week's Colonial tournament at Fort Worth, Texas.
