The Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed (INOU) launched a website this afternoon to support people who have lost their jobs in the current economic downturn.

The site, www.redundancy.ie, carries comprehensive redundancy-related social welfare information as all as information for trade unions and employers who deal with people who are being made redundant.

The organisation believes the ability to access information quickly is a key support to those facing unemployment.

Its existing website, www.inou.ie, has also undergone a revamp and will enable users to gain access to a wide range of welfare rights, policy and training information more easily and quickly.

The INOU expressed concern today at the lack of any new initiatives in the Budget to address rising unemployment.

“In a globalised economy where human capital is a very valuable commodity a systematic and integrated investment in developing the skills of both those in employment and those unemployed and emerging employment opportunities is vital,” it said in a statement.

“With an employment policy focus on the knowledge based economy which demands a level of skill too few in Ireland’s labour force currently hold where will unemployed people find employment?”
