The death of a motorcyclist (24) in Sligo town has brought to five the number of people killed on the roads between Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Three of those who died over Easter were on motorbikes. This brings to 106 the number of people who have been killed so far this year, up 24 on the same period in 2003.
The motorcyclist died when his vehicle struck a pole in the Mall area of the town at 9 p.m. His name has not yet been released.
The other fatalities were a 79-year-old man who died in a single-vehicle crash in Naas on Sunday afternoon and Gary Cotter (20) from Kilrush, Co Clare, who died when the car in which he was travelling crashed in Kilrush early on Sunday morning.
Marie Louise Duffy (32) from Drogheda died when her motorbike hit a car in Monasterevin on Saturday while on Good Friday Tony Cronin (29) from Kilkenny was killed when his motorbike collided with a lorry in Co Limerick.
