A 20-year-old Co Laois man died on Saturday night when the car he was driving collided with another at Ballymorris, Portarlington. Two of the three passengers in his car were taken to hospital but their injuries were not serious. The driver of the other car was not injured.

A woman killed in a road accident in Co Limerick on Friday was named as Mrs Marian Stevens, of Ballyvalley, Killaloe, Co Clare. In her early 80s, she was a passenger in a car which crashed into a steel barrier at Gooig, Castleconnell. A 23-year-old man died yesterday after his car crashed on the Coolhill Road, near Dungannon in Co Tyrone, at around 4.30 a.m. His name has not been released.

A Waterford man, Mr Tony Carey, was critically ill with head injuries at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, yesterday following an accident on Saturday while he was practising for the Carrowdore 100 motorcycle race in Co Down.

And a nine-year-old boy was critically ill after a crash at Tullgally East Road, Craigavon, Co Armagh.
