Today is European Car-Free Cities Day. The urban centres of Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Portlaoise are participating; see full report on page 4.
Dublin:
The All-Ireland Football final between Galway and Kerry will take place in Croke Park on Sunday. Motorists are advised that there will be heavy traffic congestion in the area all day. Major disruption is expected on Church Street/North King Street until October 19th, due to manhole construction work. Roadworks will continue on Parnell Street at Kings Court until September 24th.
Lane restrictions will be in place on Bachelors Walk/Ormond Quay until October 31st.
Arran Street East will be closed from Mary's Lane to Chancery Street until Monday September 25th. Traffic on Mary's Lane and Little Green Street will divert via Little Mary Street, Capel Street and Mary's Abbey. Roadworks on the Old Airport Road in Swords will be in place until November 17th. Restrictions will be in place both ways.
There will be sewer mains work on the Ballymun Road along the section from Collins Avenue to the Ballymun roundabout. This will reduce outbound traffic to one lane. Works will last until November 8th.
Cork:
Lavitt's Quay is reduced to a single lane westbound between St Patrick's Bridge and Christy Ring Bridge and is closed to eastbound traffic between Paul Street car-park and St Patrick Street until early November.
Merchant's Quay is reduced to two lanes and should be avoided if possible.
The southern section of Anderson's Street is closed until the end of September.
A height restriction will be in place at Thomas Davis Street, Blackpool, until further notice, and alternative routes for vehicles will be clearly signposted.
Westmeath:
Roadworks will be in place on the N4 at the Longford end of the Mullingar bypass from 7 a.m. to 6.p.m. every day until October. Temporary lights are in operation.
Kilkenny:
Roadworks are ongoing until 2002 on the Limerick/Waterford road (N24) at Greenside, Carrick-on-Suir, adjacent to the Garda station.
Roadworks will continue on the N9 at Gowran until approximately the end of September. Traffic control measures will be in operation and delays are likely.
Kildare:
Roadworks and traffic calming works continue on the N9 Moone-Timolin-Ballitore bypass between Crookstown service station and Timolin until at least November. The speed limit there is now 30 m.p.h.
Road surface repairs will take place on the N9 between Moone and Kilgowan until September 27th. Stop/Go signals will be in place.
Limerick:
Roadworks are causing major delays on the N21 Tralee to Limerick road at Newcastle West. Temporary traffic lights are in place and work is due to finish by the end of October.
The dual carriageway between Patrickswell and Adare has opened. The existing road from Lucy Cross in Patrickswell to Adare will remain closed.
Waterford:
The N25 realignment project is in operation from Garramillan to Newtown for 8.5 km. There will occasionally be temporary lights in operation.
Rail travel:
The link tunnel between platforms 6 and 7 and platforms 1 to 5 is closed for renovations. During this time, access between Connolly Intercity and the Connolly Suburban Station will be via Amiens Street.
Air travel:
More than 189,000 passengers are expected to pass through Dublin Airport this weekend.
