Commuters to Dublin Airport should avoid using the Ballymun Road as a shortcut this weekend as roadworks are still in place and long delays are expected for the next five weeks.

The next few weeks will also see delays in Lucan, where an improvement scheme is under way.

Major roadworks are taking place on Church Road, Killiney, Co Dublin, where a one-way system is in operation.

Greenpark Road in Dublin is fully open to traffic again but Strand Road will be closed inbound between Merrion Gates and Newgrove Avenue every day from 9.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. until the end of the month.

Roadworks in-bound on the Rock Road should conclude today.

A new roundabout is being built on the main road into the Phoenix Park at the turn-off for the zoo, causing delays back to Conyngham Road.

Outside Dublin, there are roadworks on the Athlone by-pass on the Dublin-bound carriageway, reducing traffic to a single lane and leading to temporary diversions at interchanges for the next six months. Extreme care is required as there are no markings on the road.

Pearse Street in Athlone is closed until Monday but alternative routes are available via Connacht Street.

Traffic is reduced to a single lane at Rochestown, Cork, on the Southern Carriageway of the South Ring Road/Carrigaline Road to facilitate the construction of the Bloomfield interchange junction. The west and east sides of the roundabout at the Dunkettle interchange have reopened.

Traffic is also down to a single lane as a result of works on the road from Leixlip into Maynooth. Roadworks in Clane village are also causing delays.

Commuters heading southbound on the N11 can expect delays in Kilmacanogue village.

Delays can also be expected near Limerick, where water-main works are taking place on the Foynes Road at Askeaton.

Major roadworks are in place on the Clonmel inner relief road, with temporary lights in operation on the Powerstown section of the N24.

In Co Laois, roadworks have begun on the N8 Dublin-Cork Road at Patrick Street, Durrow. Delays can be expected as temporary lights will be in place.
