Mogadishu - Tens of thousands of people turned out yesterday to welcome Somalia's first President in almost a decade, amid threats by the city's rival factions to block his attempt to form a government. Warlords opposed to President Abdoulkassim Salat Hassan were meanwhile in Yemen, whose head of state told them to work for peace.
Somalia has lacked a central government since the 1991 overthrow of Mr Mohamed Siad Barre, and has been ruled by clan-based factions since then.
