A SURVEY in Irish in Colaiste Cholmcille, Indreabhan, Co Galway, showed that better nutrition meant pupils were, on average, taller than their parents.
Caomhan Mac Con Iomaire found 95 per cent of third years were taller than one or both parents.
All the boys in 5th year were taller than one or both parents, while 66 per cent of the girls were taller. In Casla, his home village, 92 per cent of his peers were taller than one or both parents.
Better diet, with increases in mineral and other nutrient intake, was responsible for the increase, he found. "Bionn daoine anois ag ithe nios mo cinealacha bia na fado", he said.
