Police in south Wales said today they were questioning three men in connection with the kidnap and rape of a three-year old girl in Cardiff.
Two of the men, aged 34 and 47, were arrested in Wales and the third, aged 26, was detained in Swindon after his vehicle was followed by police.
"Three men are being held on suspicion of the kidnap and rape of this young girl," a police spokesman said.
South Wales police said detectives were carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the Rumney area of the Welsh capital after the youngster was abducted in the early hours of Jan. 2.
Police said the girl, who has not been named, remains in hospital were she is being treated for "significant injuries".
Superintendent Josh Jones called for help from the public.
"This is an extremely rare event which makes it all the more shocking," he said in a statement. "Rumney is a close-knit community and we ask the residents to work closely with us in providing any information that they can."
