The injured man, Mr Vic Dorian (32), from Gwent, was with a Welsh rugby club, Hollybush, which is on an exchange visit with Roscrea Rugby Club.

Following what gardai said was an "isolated fracas" which occurred between 9.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. on Thursday near Loughnane's pub, Castle Street, Roscrea, rushed taken to Nenagh General Hospital with serious head injuries. His condition deteriorated yesterday and he was transferred to Cork University Hospital.

He underwent surgery yesterday afternoon and was said to be in a critical condition. Mr Dorian's family have travelled from Wales. Gardai are conducting door-to-door interviews in Roscrea. They are particularly interested in speaking to a group who were in a large black car at the scene of the incident.
