Arsenal winger Robert Pires is close to signing a new contract with the club, boss Arsene Wenger has revealed.
Pires, 29, has two years left on his current deal but has agreed outline terms on a two-year extension and Wenger believes his compatriot will soon sign up until 2006.
The manager said: "We are close and we just have to finalise it with Robert. The players feel the club has strong goals and strong ambition. They want to be part of that."
Pires' desire to stay at Arsenal was apparently boosted by Wenger also committing himself to a new contract.
