A 15-year-old boy died after inhaling domestic gas fumes in a south Wexford village on Thursday.
The victim, Bernard Shiels, was in an unused house with some friends in the village of Taghmon when he became overcome by the fumes from a household gas cylinder.
He was rushed to Wexford General Hospital after the alarm was raised at 7.30 p.m. but was pronounced dead on arrival.
His mother, Mrs Rose Shiels, said her life changed in the space of an hour: "Bernard left the house to go down the village" but within an hour a caller to the door came with the news.
"I would like a warning to go out to all parents of how easy it is for something like this to happen," she said. "He was a clearly happy young boy leaving the home but then this terrible tragedy has left us all devastated," Mrs Shiels said.
Bernard and his younger sisters were to travel with her to Tunisia today on a family holiday. "Then all this was to happen, which has turned our whole world upside down."
