In its seventh year, the Dublin City Soul Festival is celebrating up-and-coming musical talent. The soul picnic takes place on Saturday and Sunday in Merrion Square Park and is in aid of the Musical Youth Foundation. Admission is free but donations to the Musical Youth Foundation are welcome.

Doolin Writer's Weekend, Clare,
all weekend
This year's writer's weekend takes place in Doolin Hotel. It is packed with workshops for poetry, songwriting, getting published and sports writing as well as talks and seminars by writers Colette Caddle, Terri Hooley, Peter Sheridan and Eddie Stack. Prices for workshops are around €25 and there are trad sessions and music throughout the weekend with free admission.

Rebellion is Coming, Wexford, Saturday and Sunday
The National 1798 Rebellion Centre in Wexford has been undergoing a huge redevelopment since the start of the year and is reopening this weekend with a Rebellion Weekend. The event takes a living history approach where you will walk among the redcoats and rebels, while a blacksmith will be showing off some of the techniques of making weapons.

The Just 4 Kids Show, Dublin, Saturday and Sunday
Kids go free to this fun-filled show for the whole family. There are loads of activities throughout the two days across several different zones. For the adults, there are seminars about internet safety, bullying, nutrition and entertainment as well as many more. Both days start at 10am in the RDS.

Clik All-Ireland and International Sheep Shearing & Wool Handling Championships, Cork, Saturday and Sunday
One of Ireland's largest agricultural events, a weekend of shearing, trade and fun for all the family await those going to the championships. As well as the competitive sheep shearing throughout the weekend, there will also be a dog show on Sunday. The grand opening is at 12.30pm on Sunday.
