Washington - The White House has defended again the August 20th bombing of a factory in Sudan it contends was producing substances that could be used to make chemical nerve gas.
"I have a high level of confidence that the pharmaceutical plant in Sudan was associated with chemical weapons," President Clinton's national security adviser Mr Sandy Berger told reporters yesterday.
"I think we had overwhelming grounds to strike this facility," he said, noting there was evidence the Al-Chifaa factory was producing a chemical known as EMPTA, "essentially the penultimate precursor to VX gas."
