Cricket:Ireland moved within sight of victory after the second day of their ICC Inter-Continental Cup clash with Holland in Dublin.
Having dismissed the visitors for 188 on day one at Observatory Lane in Rathmines, Ireland racked up 408 in reply and then took four second-innings wickets to leave the Dutch struggling to avoid an innings defeat.
Resuming at 88 for two, Ireland lost overnight pair Alex Cusack (43) and Kevin O’Brien (41) in the early stages to slip to 109 for four. But Andrew White compiled a superb 144 and, after losing Gary Wilson (21), he found a willing ally in John Mooney.
The latter made 107 before both centurions fell in successive Mohammad Kashif overs, and the off-spinner then mopped up the tail cheaply to finish with five for 53.
Ireland veteran Trent Johnston made immediate inroads in the Dutch innings, removing Eric Szwarczynski with his first ball on his way to figures of three for 19 as Holland were left 71 for four at stumps, Nick Statham carrying the fight with 20 not out.
