In an article published on February 16th last concerning the decision by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government to appoint a senior counsel to carry out an independent review of the management of Wicklow County Council’s application for loan approval to fund the purchase of certain lands in Charlesland, Greystones, Co Wicklow, a reference was made under the heading “Wicklow County Council faces €3m land deal inquiry” to a senior counsel investigating the purchase of the land in question and that he “investigate” the deal.

The Irish Timesaccepts that these statements are factually incorrect and that the terms of reference of the review, at present, refer solely to the management by the department of an application by Wicklow County Council for loan approval in respect of the compulsory purchase of certain lands at Charlesland, Greystones, Co Wicklow. The Irish Times is happy to clarify the position.
