A wife who thought she had got away with murdering her violent husband was jailed for life tonight.
Mother-of-two Julie McGinley (31) who was once caught having sex with her lover in a car outside the couple's furniture store, glared at a Belfast jury who convicted her at the end of a marathon trial.
Her lover, Michael Monaghan (44) who helped dump the body in a lonely wood in the Republic was also found guilty of murder.
The pair bludgeoned their victim, Mr Gerald McGinley, in the hope they could begin a new life together.
For 10 months the body lay undiscovered, while the lovers planned for the future.
Detectives questioned them a number of times but they refused to admit their guilt even after police realised Mr McGinley had been battered to death in the bedroom of his bungalow home.
It was only after the badly decomposed remains were discovered by horrified ramblers in Co Leitrim in June 2001 that police were able to charge them.
Tonight, Mr McGinley's father Gerry said that he had nothing to say to the pair who had murdered his son.
Referring to their refusal to give evidence in court, he said: "If they feel there was wrong done they had the opportunity to tell their story.
Friends of the murdered man claim his wife had a string of affairs before she and Monaghan, who also worked in the furniture shop, plotted to get him out of the way.
The jury of five men and five women delivered their verdict after three hours of deliberation. During the 13-week trial the prosecution had told them McGinley, of Windmill Street, and Monaghan from Ann Street in Enniskillen, had murdered the businessman because he was "an impediment" to their affair.
Monaghan slumped, head in hands, as the verdict was read out. Beside him McGinley showed no emotion until she stared at the jury on her way to the cells.
Before they were led away the judge, Mr Justice Kerr, told them their crime would be punished by life imprisonment. But the minimum sentence will be determined later.
The judge said: "It will be necessary for a tariff hearing to take place."
