British and Irish Lions flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson has a good chance of playing in Saturday's third test, according to the Lions team doctor.

It was assumed Wilkinson was certain to miss the series decider after injuring his left leg in last weekend's defeat in Melbourne.

But doctor James Robson said Wilkinson’s condition was improving so rapidly he was now likely to play.

"Jonny's doing very well. He shifted from a 50-50 chance of playing yesterday to a 70-30 chance today," Robson said.

"He's very, very keen to be there and is doing everything he can."

There was also good news for several other injured Lions players who are expected to play on Saturday.

Brian O'Driscoll missed today’s training session because of a leg problem, but Robson said it was not serious and he would be fit to resume training tomorrow.

England flanker Neil Back, who scored the Lions' only try in Saturday's second test, was also cleared to rejoin the squad after his leg injury showed signs of improvement.

England centre Will Greenwood, who has been out of action since injuring his ankle in a warm-up match against New South Wales, will also be available for selection.

Australian flyhalf Stephen Larkham is still in doubt for the third test, however, with a rare nerve injury in his right arm after trying to tackle O'Driscoll in the first half of Saturday's match.
