Local hero Ralf Schumacher claimed another pole position as he set the fastest time in final practice for the European Grand Prix in Germany today.
The Williams-BMW driver, who has been on pole for the past two races, displaced Frenchman Olivier Panis from the top of the time sheets in the final session before qualifying later.
He then eventually finished just 0.061 seconds ahead of team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya pushing Colombian moved into second place late in the 45-minute session.
Panis finished third fastest for Toyota - having been quickest when practice resumed this morning - just under 0.2secs adrift of the leading Williams.
David Coulthard again had the edge he desperately needs over fellow McLaren-Mercedes driver Kimi Raikkonen as he posted the fourth best time, just over 0.3secs off the pace.
Coulthard trails Raikkonen - who was fifth in practice - by 26 points while he is another three points behind championship leader Michael Schumacher who finished back in ninth spot for Ferrari.
But Raikkonen will have the advantage of going last in qualifying, although the fickle weather in the Eifel forest region of Germany could prove to be a problem.
Brazil's Cristiano da Matta was sixth in the other Toyota as the Cologne-based outfit produced their best showing of a disappointing second season in Formula One so far.
The team - who look set to keep Panis and da Matta for 2004 - will have around 15,000 guests at the track over the course of the weekend and would have wanted to impress their Japanese paymasters.
Michael Schumacher was over 1.4secs off the pace of his brother while Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello was one place further back after making an excursion through the gravel during the session.
Jenson Button finished practice in 13th place for BAR while Jordan's Ralph Firman was 17th and Justin Wilson 19th in the Minardi.
