Tennis: Serena Williams continued her successful comeback at the rainy Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open, with a with a 6-2 6-2 victory over fellow American Amy Frazier.
The quarter-finals were interrupted on several occasions due to rain and Williams had to wait out the completion of top seed and defending champion Patty Schnyder's win over ninth-seeded Sania Mirza, which was delayed twice.
Williams was competing for the first time since she suffered a knee injury at Australian Open - an absence that dropped her to 139th in the world rankings.
But Williams has not dropped a set and has lost just 12 games in three matches here.
In the top half of the draw, Schnyder was made to battle in a rain-delayed 7-6 (9/7) 7-5 victory over the 19-year-old Indian, who was playing in her first quarter-final this season.
Williams now faces unseeded Vera Zvonareva, who is playing her best tennis of the season.
The Russian thrashed fifth-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia & Montenegro 6-1 6-1 to move into the last four.
Zvonareva has now lost just seven games in the tournament.
Schnyder's semi-final opponent will be fourth-seeded Katarina Srebotnik of Slovakia, who overwhelmed sixth seed Marion Bartoli of France 6-2 6-1 to reach her first semi-final of the year.
Schnyder has won both their previous meetings, including one at Miami earlier this year.
