Motorists have been warned of difficult driving conditions across the country because of gale force winds, and heavy rain, sleet and snow.
Met Eireann issued a weather warning this morning saying southeast gales on all coasts could touch storm force 10 in places. Winds are gusting to around 60 miles per hour in many areas, with a risk of thunderstorms.
With temperatures ranging between 3 and 8 degrees Celsius, snow has made driving difficult in some areas, while frost and fog is expected tonight. AA Roadwatch said snow was lying on roads in areas of Co Wicklow and Co Sligo.
Meanwhile, the strong winds have forced the Irish Ferries swift sailing on the Dublin to Holyhead route at 12.15 to be cancelled. The 5.30 p.m. sailing from Dublin to Holyhead and the return leg from Holyhead to Dublin at 8.15pm have yet to be confirmed.
