A company owned by a former Fianna Fáil councillor and close friend of Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has been ordered to wind up by the High Court today.
J & H Burke and Son Builders, owned by Joe Burke, specialises in refurbishing pubs but has debts of €900,000.
Ms Justice Mary Laffoy today ordered that it be wound up and appointed a liquidator to the company.
Last year, Mr Ahern revealed Mr Burke, who is also chairman of Dublin Port, as one of 12 friends who game him "loans" after the break-up of his marriage in the early 1990s. These monies totalled €49,500 and were only paid back last year.
The company employed 16 people and was based in the Dublin area. The liquidator is Mr Kenneth Fennell of Kavanagh Fennell.
Ms Justice Laffoy directed that the company directors, who include Mr Burke, file a statement of affairs within 21 days. She further directed that a meeting of creditors be convened.
The case will come before the court again on February 26th next.
