The young Irish pianist Finghin Collins has successfully made it through the first round of the 12th Leeds International Piano Competition. The competition, with total prize money of £42,300, is held every three years and has attracted 260 applications from 45 countries.
The finals, on Friday and Saturday week, involve concerto performances with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Simon Rattle, and will be broadcast live on both BBC 2 and BBC Radio 3.
