GAA round-up:An experimental Dublin line-up overcame Wexford in Parnell Park this afternoon, running out 2-10 to 0-8 winners as the inter-county season got underway. The new experimental rules also got their first airing and, by and large, passed with the minimum of fuss around the country.

In Newbridge, Kildare survived a Dermot Earley red card to prevail against UCD 0-16 to 1-11.

In the Dr McKenna Cup, Tyrone kicked a raft of points as they dismissed St Mary’s 0-26 to 0-10. Kyle Coney, one of many players back with their native counties after spells in Australia, ran proceedings and scored five of his side’s total.

Femanagh shrugged aside the challenge of a lacklustre Monaghan at Brewster Park. Monaghan never really got into their stride and ended up on the wrong end of a 0-12 to 0-8 scoreline.
