GAA round-up: Kerry 1-10 Dublin 1-12:Dublin exacted some revenge for last year's All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Kerry with a two-point win over Kerry in Killarney. The Dubs's first win in the Kingdom could have looked even more impressive had John Walsh not netted for the hosts in injury time.

That said, the Dubs have won opening fixtures against the All-Ireland champions on numerous occasions and not done anything of note with the remainder of their season.

Kerry on the other hand have made losing on the first day back something of an absent-minded habit.

Paul Flynn was top scorer for the visitors with a personal haul of 1-02.

Pat Gilroy's side got the scoring underway after just 15 seconds when Eamonn Fennell pointed and the carried on in that fashion as Flynn hit the net to lay the foundation for 1-06 to 0-06 lead at the break.

Paul Galvin found his range in the second half and Walsh's goal closed the gap significantly but Darragh McAuley's point pushed Dublin out of range.

"I don't think the results really matter," said Gilroy afterwards. "At this time of the year it's about seeing young guys and how they acquit themselves at this level. There were a lot of good Kerry players playing today so you could see who was able for this level.

"We were very happy. They worked hard. But at the end of the day it's a February league match; that's all it is."

Mayo 2-14 Galway 1-10:There was a high-profile newcomer at McHale Park but all Joe Kernan can take away from his first derby against Mayo as Galway manager is that his side could have been beaten by a lot more.

Had Mayo not seen captain Trevor Mortimer sent off when they were 13 points to the good in the 46th minute, things could have been much worse for the Tribesmen.

Michael Meehan, introduced at half time, hauled Galway back into the realms of respectability by posting 1-3, but Mayo utterly dominated the day.

"Out muscled and out gunned," was the reaction from Kernan. "If you want a reality check, that was definitely it for Galway folks and it will maybe dampen things down and realise that there is a lot of work to be done."

Mayo obliterated their neighbours in the first half and never really looked back

Two points each from Kevin McLoughlin, Mark Ronaldson and Andy Moran pushed Mayo into 0-11 to 0-05 ahead at half-time and Enda Varley and Mortimer added goals early in the second half before the latter was sent off for a late hit on Gareth Bradshaw.

Monaghan 3-12 Cork 3-13:Late points by Paul Kerrigan and substitute John Hayes saw Cork snatch the narrowest of victories over Monaghan in a high-scoring thriller in Scotstown.

Monaghan held a two-point lead with 10 minutes remaining but Cork registered three unanswered points between the in seven minutes to turn the tide.

Monaghan had to fight back on a number of occasions but ultimately paid the price for 14 wides in total.
