GAA Round-Up:Louth were surprise winners over Kildare in yesterday's Leinster SFC quarter-final win in Navan, while Sligo battled through a tough encounter against Mayo in their Connacht SFC match at Markievicz Park.

Louth were 1-22 to 1-16 winners over the Lilywhites, the first time they have won this fixture in championship football since 1995. Their reward is a semi-final date with either Westmeath or Wicklow.

With Kildare now staring down the qualifier route, Peter Fitzpatrick’s side can take many positives from their six-point victory.

Kildare were first to find the net on 13th minutes when Adrian Sweeney gave the possession to James Kavanagh, who put Pádraig O'Neill in, whose shot found the corner of the goal.

In a high tempo game Louth eventually went into the break 0-14 to 1-06 ahead.

In the second period Louth increased their advantage when Ray Finnegan picked up Mark Brennan's quick free and fired home on 39 minutes.

The Wee County were determined all afternoon and with a sizable advantage they held on to record a memorable win.

At Markievicz Park Sligo were 0-15 to 1-08 winners over Mayo to record their first championship win over their opponents in 10 years. They will now take on Galway in the Connacht semi-final.

Sligo got to grips with the game in the second period with strong performances from Charlie Harrison and Johnny Davey.

Mayo’s goal was converted from the spot after Alan Freeman was taken down by his marker Noel McGuire when collecting an inviting Andy Moran ball. Referee Jimmy White was left with no option but point to the spot.

Freeman stepped up and gave Sligo goalkeeper Philip Greene no chance. Mayo held a narrow 1-04 to 0-05 lead at the break before Sligo turned the game in the second period.
