There were Allianz NHL Division One wins for neighbours Waterford and Wexford while Offaly travelled to Down to beat the Mourne men today.
Waterford gained revenge for their two defeats to Cork in the Championship last season by winning 0-25 to 2-15 away to the Rebel county and go top of the Division One table.
Wexford were comfortable 2-13 to 0-11 winners against Clare as Offaly beat Down 1-14 to 1-18.
In the Dr McKenna Cup final Monaghan had no answer against the strength and depth of Tyrone as Mickey Harte's men won by a comfortable 1-15 to 0-05 margin at Casement Park.
Elsewhere Galway took the Connacht FBD League title with a 2-08 to 0-09 victory over Mayo in Tuam.
