A businessman has told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that the man he saw running from the scene of a collision in which a father and his teenage daughter were killed was not the accused.

Mr Martin Maguire, who runs a computer business on Mark Street, near Pearse Street, told Ms Orla Crowe, prosecuting, that he knew the accused man for many years and he was not the person he saw running from the accident.

Mr Declan Martin (28), from Markievicz House, Pearse Street, is pleading not guilty to two counts of dangerous driving causing death, one count of dangerous driving causing serious harm to another person, unlawful use of a vehicle and driving without insurance on September 20th, 1999.

Mr Martin is alleged to have been the driver of a Saab 9000 that crashed into the Fiat Uno on the junction of Townsend and Moss Street causing the deaths of Richard Greene and his daughter Christina. A passenger in the Fiat Uno was also seriously injured. The trial continues before Judge Dominic Lynch and a jury.
