Gardai are seeking witnesses to the shooting of a 22-year-old man in Athy, Co Kildare, on Saturday. The man was sitting on the steps of the courthouse with two friends at 10.45 p.m. when a young man in his late teens or early 20s, dressed in black clothes and wearing a balaclava, came around the building and fired a sawn-off shotgun at him. The man was hit in the lower right leg. The gunman ran back the way he had come and escaped by car.
The injured man was taken to Naas Hospital, where his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
