Sir Terry Wogan is making a return to TV screens with a “landmark” BBC documentary about Ireland.
A two-part BBC1 documentary titled Terry Wogan's Ireland will see the veteran presenter go back to his roots as he travels across the island.
The BBC said during his journey he will meet old friends and step back into his past to explore how
Ireland has shaped him. The programme will also explore what it means to be Irish in the 21st century.
BBC commissioning executive Maxine Watson said: "Terry is the perfect person to take us on this
journey.
"He, like millions of Irish people before him, may have settled elsewhere, yet across the diaspora there remains a strong sense of Irish identity." The new show will be filmed later this month in HD and will air on BBC1 later this year.
Former TV chat show host Sir Terry quit commentating on the Eurovision Song Contest after the UK's drubbing in 2008.
He is the host of BBC Radio 2's Weekend Wogan, having previously been the station's breakfast
presenter before signing off last December and being replaced by Chris Evans.
