World Bank presidential hopeful Paul Wolfowitz will meet European Union officials in Brussels on Wednesday.
No European government has spoken out openly against the US deputy defence secretary, an architect of the 2003 war in Iraq, but some have misgivings about his suitability to lead an institution whose main mission is fighting poverty.
World Bank board officials said last week that Mr Wolfowitz would go to Luxembourg, current president of the 25-nation EU, to lay out his views on the role of the agency for European economy and aid ministers.
However, diplomats said the meeting would now be held in Brussels.
