Woman (17) charged after Belfast assault

A woman (17) has been charged in connection with an assault in Belfast that left a man in a serious condition in hospital.

A woman (17) has been charged in connection with an assault in Belfast that left a man in a serious condition in hospital.

The woman was one of four people arrested following the attack in the Whiterock area of the city. She has been charged with criminal damage, disorderly behaviour and assault.

Another woman (23) was released on bail, and two men are still being questioned by the PSNI.

The injured man is understood to have been hit about the head with a hammer during a fracas on Saturday night. Two other men sustained less serious head injuries.

In a follow-up investigation, two PSNI officers claim they were hit by a car at Moyard Parade.

One of the officers fired a shot at the car. Police Ombudsman Nuala O'Loan is to investigate the shooting.
