Gardai in Co Meath are investigating the cause of a fatal accident in which a 21-year-old woman was killed when her car crashed into a gate pier. Ms Celine Clynch, of Dunsany, Co Meath, was travelling alone in her Ford Fiesta van when she apparently lost control of the vehicle on the back road between Trim and Navan at Gilltown.

The road is pot-holed in places and the Garda investigation will examine the possibility that she may have swerved to avoid a pot-hole. Her vehicle is also being examined to see if it had any faults.

Ms Clynch's car spun 180 degrees and crashed, driver-side on, into the concrete gate pier. She suffered head injuries and was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where she died yesterday afternoon.
