Woman and boy die in house fire

A 6-year-old boy and his mother have died in a fire at their home in Navan, Co Meath.

A 6-year-old boy and his mother have died in a fire at their home in Navan, Co Meath.

Gardaí believe the fire, which broke out in the house at Canterbrook, Trim Road, started accidentally in a downstairs room.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 1pm yesterday when passersby noticed the blackened windows.

The bodies of a 28-year-old woman and her six-year-old son were subsequently found in an upstairs bedroom.

There was nobody else in the house at the time. The bodies have been taken to Navan Hospital where post mortem examinations will take place today.
