A YOUNG woman and her male cousin have been found not guilty by direction of rape in a Westmeath town during 1994. However, the trial of the woman's 15 year old brother continues at the Central Criminal Court.
He has pleaded not guilty to raping and sexually assaulting a woman (25) in a field on March 26th, 1994. He also denies assaulting the woman, occasioning her actual bodily harm, on the same occasion.
Following seven days of legal argument, Mr Justice Moriarty directed a jury to find the accused's sister (18) and his male cousin (also 18) not guilty of similar charges.
