A WOMAN and two teenage boys were in Garda custody last night after they were arrested in connection with a pipe bomb attack at a house in Co Limerick.

The three were arrested in west Limerick at 8am yesterday and were being questioned about an incident in Rathkeale last Tuesday in which two pipe bombs were thrown inside a house.

One of the devices exploded after they were both thrown into the house in the Ballywilliam estate at about 4.30am.

Emergency services were responding to a 999 call about a fire at the privately owned home when the bombs were discovered.

Nobody was injured, but the owner of the house and her four sons were asleep upstairs when their front door was forced open and a pipe bomb thrown inside.

Residents of the area were evacuated and the Army bomb disposal unit was called. The unexploded device was made safe and handed to gardaí for their inquiries.

The woman and teenagers arrested were being held at separate Garda stations in Limerick city and county last night. All are being questioned under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, which means they can be detained for up to seven days.
