The mother of a young man who was stabbed to death has brought a High Court challenge to the State’s refusal to direct a new inquest into his killer’s death.
The case arises from the death of Sebastian Creane (22) after he was stabbed by Shane Clancy at Cuala Grove, Bray, Co Wicklow, on August 16th, 2009. Clancy took his own life on the same date.
The inquest into Clancy’s death was the only public forum where the circumstances of her youngest son’s death would ever be explored, Nuala Creane said. The Creanes had asked the Attorney General for a new inquest but this was refused.
Lawyers for Ms Creane yesterday applied for leave to bring the proceedings.
Mr Justice Michael Peart granted leave and returned the matter to late next month.
Ms Creane is seeking orders including that the Attorney General direct a new inquest into the death of Clancy.
