A 24-year-old woman appeared before Galway District Court yesterday charged in connection with the discovery of a man's body outside a block of flats in the city early last Sunday morning.
Una Black, Droim Chaoin, Bishop O'Donnell Road, Galway, is charged with assault, causing serious harm to John Malone, at Walter Macken flats, Mervue, Galway, on December 3rd.
Garda Paudie O'Shea, who arrested the accused at Galway Garda station on Sunday evening, told the court Ms Black made no reply when the charge was put to her.
Inspector John Galvin said he had no objection to bail provided conditions were attached and a €3,000 independent bail surety was available.
Judge Mary Fahy remanded Ms Black in custody with consent to bail on her own surety of €600 and one independent surety of €3,000, one third to be lodged in cash in court, to appear before Galway District Court again next Monday.
Bail was granted on condition the accused reside with her mother at the above address, not interfere in any way with witnesses, stay away from Walter Macken flats, and sign on every Monday and Friday at Galway Garda station.
Mr Malone, a native of Co Offaly, was found by neighbours slumped in a doorway leading to one of the four blocks of flats in Mervue, a suburb of Galway city at 5.45am on Sunday morning. He had been stabbed a number of times in the upper body.
The 42-year-old deceased, a native of Co Offaly, had been living in the flats complex for the last 10 years.
A man who was arrested along with Ms Black on Sunday afternoon was later released without charge.
Gardaí have confirmed that a file on the matter is being prepared and will be sent to the DPP's office for directions.
